Dr. Kenneth Tran ready to help with dental emergencies at Peninsula Dentistry Huntington Beach

"I've seen patients come in terrified with a broken tooth from a surfing accident right here in Surf City and walk out smiling. I've had parents rush in with a kid who took a ball to the mouth at the park. Whatever's going on, we've got you. Call us and we'll figure it out together."

Common Emergencies

We Treat All Dental Emergencies

If something's wrong, don't wait for it to get worse. Here are the emergencies we see most often — and we handle every one of them same-day.

Urgent

Severe Toothache

That deep, throbbing pain that keeps you up at night? It could be an infection, an abscess, or nerve damage — and it won't get better on its own. Call us so Dr. Tran can find out what's going on and get you out of pain.

Urgent

Broken or Cracked Tooth

Whether it happened biting into something or took an elbow during a pickup game, a broken tooth needs attention fast. The good news: we can usually save it with a same-day crown or veneer.

Seek Immediate Care

Knocked-Out Tooth

This is a race against the clock — if you get here within 30 minutes, Dr. Tran can often put the tooth back. If that's not possible, a dental implant can replace it permanently. Don't wait — call us now.

Same-Day

Lost Filling or Crown

A filling or crown that falls out leaves your tooth exposed and sensitive. It's not something to put off. Come in and we'll restore it same-day so you can get back to your life.

Seek Immediate Care

Abscess or Infection

If you're seeing swelling, feeling feverish, or notice pus near your gum line — that's a serious infection. Don't tough it out. Untreated abscesses can become dangerous fast. Call us right away.

Urgent

Uncontrolled Bleeding

Bleeding that won't stop after an extraction, an injury, or gum trauma needs attention. Apply firm pressure with clean gauze and call us — we'll talk you through it and get you in.

Step-by-Step Guide

What to Do in a Dental Emergency

01

Take a Breath

I know it's scary, but try to stay calm. Look for bleeding, swelling, or anything that looks off. If a tooth got knocked out, find it and pick it up by the top — don't touch the root.

02

Call Us Right Away

Pick up the phone and call (714) 374-8800. We'll walk you through what to do next and get your emergency appointment set up while you're still on the line.

03

Take Care of Yourself on the Way

Ice pack on the outside of your cheek helps with swelling. Ibuprofen can take the edge off the pain. If there's bleeding, press clean gauze against it firmly. You're almost here.

04

We Take It from Here

When you walk into our Huntington Beach office, Dr. Tran will examine everything, explain what he's seeing, and get you treated. No waiting around, no runaround. We'll get you comfortable and get you fixed up.

(714) 374-8800 Frequently asked dental questions
What qualifies as a dental emergency?
If you're in real pain or something doesn't look right, it's an emergency. That includes severe toothaches, knocked-out or broken teeth, lost fillings or crowns, infections with swelling, uncontrolled bleeding, and jaw injuries. When in doubt, call us — Dr. Tran would rather see you and catch it early than have you wait and make it worse.
Do you accept walk-in emergency patients?
Absolutely. Call us first so we can get a room ready for you, but yes — we make room for emergencies every day. The sooner you call, the faster we can get you in and out of pain.
What should I do if a tooth is knocked out?
First, find the tooth. Pick it up by the top part (the crown), not the root. Rinse it gently with milk or saline — don't scrub it. If you can, try to place it back in the socket. If that's not happening, keep it wet in a cup of milk or tuck it between your cheek and gum. Then call us immediately. Dr. Tran has saved many knocked-out teeth, but the first 30 minutes make all the difference.
How much does emergency dental care cost?
The emergency exam and X-rays cost about the same as a regular visit. What comes after depends on what's going on — Dr. Tran will walk you through everything before any treatment starts. We accept most PPO insurance plans, and our front desk team will help you sort out coverage so you can focus on feeling better.
What if my emergency happens after hours?
After office hours, please text only at (714) 374-8800. Calls may not get picked up, but texts will — and we'll get back to you as quickly as we can. If it's something life-threatening (heavy bleeding that won't stop, trouble breathing, severe facial swelling), head straight to the nearest ER.
Can a cracked tooth be saved?
Most of the time, yes. Dr. Tran will take a close look and let you know exactly what he's seeing. Depending on the crack, he may be able to fix it with a crown, a root canal, or bonding. The key is getting in quickly — the sooner we see it, the more options we have to save the tooth.
